VJJM Builders is a Limited
Liability Corporation
jointly owned by Vahid Javid (VJ) and
Jimmy McKinney (JRCSI.com),
an engineer and
Registered Builder/Remodeler
respectively.
VJ and Jimmy became
acquainted in their
church men’s group.
Through discussions they
realized they shared an
important passion: the
belief in the need for a
different residential
building model that
would both respect
Mother Earth and provide
beauty, comfort and
shelter for as many
different people at as
many stages of life as
possible.
For VJ, it is a
project of the heart. In
2007, he lost his
beloved wife of twenty
five years to metastasis
of Breast Cancer. During
the last years of her
life she wanted so badly
to live at home, but
their wonderful
two-story family home in
Dogwood Trace in
Lexington was not able
to accommodate her
mobility disability.
For Jimmy,a
fourth generation
builder, building is
a passion that ignited
in him as a young boy
building his first Club
House, and the fire
burns strong. It began
with Marcus McKinney,
Jimmy’s great
grandfather, who began
building furniture after
his return from World
War I.
Jimmy traveled around the country with
various construction companies
honing his craft after college at
Eastern Kentucky University. In 2003
he began his own company, with a
partner who he subsequently bought
out. J & R Construction Services,
Inc. was founded on and still
follows the motto of “Customer
Service and Quality First,” a theme
that carries over to VJJM.
Jimmy’s interest in Universal design began
when his grandparents
moved in with their
family when he was still
at home. He watched the
struggles of trying to
accommodate their needs
in a “young” family’s
home, and has long
wished to be a part of
developing a different
home model.
Tracey Wilkerson,
Operations Manager,
began as a sounding
board for the two,
providing a “woman’s
point of view.” She soon
became an enthusiastic
guest of the group at
their weekly meetings,
taking on more and more
responsibility.
Eventually, her
participation lead to
its natural conclusion
as a permanent member of
the team. Besides
offering a female
perspective, Tracey
brings strong
organizational skills
from many years in
management for a major
corporation.
